Everything we have run, on one page

A handwritten list of every training module we run, the folders we kept for each one, and the printables that came out of them.

One day we wrote down every training module we run on a single sheet of paper. It is a quick list in pen, with ticks beside the ones that were ready. We are sharing it because it shows, on one page, where most of our programmes came from.

Here is what the page lists:

  • Quran and Seerah storytelling, with a trainer's manual. Under it are the stories: Helpful Spider, Journey of Patience (Surah Al-Kahf), Amazing Snake, Ants, and Faithful (Surah Al-Kahf).
  • The 4-I workshop, with a book, marked "21st century learning" and linked to Quran Investigators.
  • The Learning Environment workshop (Bi'ah), also with a book.
  • The Quran and Hadith Doodling workshop (QHRD).
  • Quran Reflection Journaling (QRJ).
  • Camps: Bookcamps.

QHRD stands for Quran and Hadith Reflection and Doodling. It came out of many rounds of trying things. The aim is to bring people closer to understanding the Quran and hadith by doodling them, instead of only thinking and talking about them or going through very formal channels.

A folder for each module

Everything started as hard copies, printed and run on the ground. We kept the materials together in folders, sorted by theme. Over time these grew into separate programmes: StoryBuzz, Doodling, Quran Investigators, EduDrama, Umrah for Kids and others.

"Qi" on the label is short for Quran Investigators.

What came out of each module

Each module produced its own worksheets, and they changed as we went. The pages below come from one binder. Three stages of our branding show up in them: the early "Inspire | Integrate | Implement" logo, the 3-I tagline "inspire . integrate . impart", and the magnifying glass of Quran Investigators.

The An Naas Boot Camp cover carries the earliest logo, with the line "Kids' Islamic Enrichment Program".

On an Al-Ikhlas page from Doodle with Quran, a child wrote under the verse: "I am going to be a sensai and fun scholar" (a child, Doodle with Quran, c. 2017).

The Doodle with Surah Al Lahab cover sets out our Qoodle (Quran-doodling) method in eight steps.

Stickers on envelope labels

In our face-to-face sessions we also printed stickers on envelope labels and stuck them on the children's shirts or on their sheets. Each label in the "Animals and Nature reflection series" pairs a picture with a verse from the Quran and a question for the child. We started these early, when we did not have many resources to use.

We wrote the modules list a few years after we made the first products for our kit, before any of the printed versions came out.
